About the Role

TeacherActive are looking for a Functional Skills Tutor to work in a specialist alternative provision in Derby.

Experience working in a school setting and experience with SEND pupils is essential.

QTS or QTLS is preferred but not essential as attitude, personality are absolutely key.

Desirable Attributes
  • Have an ability to teach functional skills in English & Maths.
  • Have experience working with young people
  • Be highly organised with excellent communication skills
  • Have a desire to work with, inspire and support children
  • Have an interest in supporting young people with a variety of additional needs
  • Have experience supporting children with additional needs (desirable not essential)
  • Be a part of the school team taking part in the wider school environment
  • Have an understanding of behavioural management
Basic Role Description
  • Teaching Basic Skills in an SEND provision to pupils of varying abilities
  • Supporting children during lessons/school activities
  • Supporting staff/children during lunch and break times
  • Managing pupils personalised learning based on their individual need.
  • Delivering 1:1 or small group activities
  • Collecting evidence of children s work to support their assessment
  • Providing physical management and care of pupils

The setting supports young people in KS3 & 4 who have been permanently excluded or are on the verge of permanent exclusion from mainstream schools. The aim is to either reintegrate these young people back into mainstream schools/post 16 education/apprenticeships or training through personalised education plans.
