Job summary

The-Protocol-Group is seeking a Functional Skills English & Maths Tutor to deliver City & Guilds qualifications from Entry Level 1 to Level 2 within a prison education setting. You will plan engaging lessons, assess learners, and develop ILPs to support progression.

This role focuses on improving literacy and numeracy while maintaining robust records. We value an experienced educator with strong planning and classroom management skills, committed to safeguarding and inclusive education.

Qualifications

• Level 3 qualification in Maths and English is required.
• Teaching qualification Level 5 or above or willingness to work towards one.
• Experience delivering Functional Skills English and/or Maths.
• Strong planning, classroom management and learner engagement skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding, equality and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Functional Skills English and Maths qualifications from Entry Level 1 to Level 2.
• Plan engaging, inclusive lessons for groups up to 12 learners.
• Conduct initial assessments and use diagnostic tools to identify starting points.
• Develop, review and maintain Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
• Create lesson plans that enable progression and achievement.
• Motivate learners to build confidence and reach potential.
• Support learners with additional needs and implement adjustments.
• Monitor progress and prepare learners for examinations.
• Promote literacy, numeracy and a positive learning culture.
• Maintain accurate learner records and assessment documentation.
• Collaborate with colleagues to achieve positive outcomes.

The Role

As a Functional Skills Tutor, you will:

• Work collaboratively with colleagues and support services to achieve positive learner outcomes.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for an enthusiastic educator who believes in the transformative power of education and is committed to helping learners succeed.

• Level 3 qualification in Maths and English.
• Teaching qualification at Level 5 or above (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS, or equivalent), or willingness to work towards one.
• Experience delivering Functional Skills English and/or Maths qualifications.
• Strong lesson planning, classroom management, and learner engagement skills.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet a wide range of learning needs.
• Excellent communication, organisational, and administrative skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion, and learner achievement.
• Experience within prison education, adult learning, or further education settings.
• Experience using BKSB or similar diagnostic assessment tools.
• Knowledge of Ofsted's Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
• Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification or willingness to work towards one.
