Job summary

Protocol is seeking a Functional Skills English Tutor to deliver qualifications from Entry Level 1 to Level 2 within a prison education environment. The role focuses on helping learners develop literacy, confidence and employability.

You will assess learners, plan engaging lessons, create ILPs, monitor progress and prepare for examinations while upholding safeguarding and inclusion standards.

Qualifications

• Level 3 qualification in English or equivalent.
• Teaching qualification at Level 5 or above (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent).
• Experience delivering Functional Skills English qualifications.
• Strong lesson planning and learner engagement skills.
• Excellent communication, organisational and administrative abilities.
• Ability to adapt teaching approaches to suit a range of learning styles and abilities.
• Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Functional Skills English from Entry Level 1 to Level 2.
• Conduct initial assessments and identify learner starting points.
• Develop and maintain ILPs.
• Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to individual learner needs.
• Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Prepare learners for examinations and assessments.
• Support learners who require additional learning support or reasonable adjustments.
• Promote literacy, confidence and independent learning.
• Maintain accurate learner records and documentation.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to support positive learner outcomes.

The Role

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Essential Requirements

• Level 3 qualification in English or equivalent.
• Teaching qualification at Level 5 or above (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent)
• Experience delivering Functional Skills English qualifications.
• Strong lesson planning and learner engagement skills.
• Excellent communication, organisational and administrative abilities.
• Ability to adapt teaching approaches to suit a range of learning styles and abilities.
• Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.

Desirable

• Experience within prison education, adult learning or further education.
• Experience using BKSB or similar diagnostic assessment tools.
• Knowledge of education quality standards and inspection frameworks.
• Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification or willingness to work towards one.
