Job summary

New Meaning Training Berkshire is seeking a motivated Functional Skills Maths Tutor to deliver Maths from Entry Level 3 to Level 2 in Reading. The role focuses on making Maths practical, relevant and accessible for learners, many with SEND/SEMH needs, to build confidence and independence.

Qualifications

• A recognised Level 3 teaching qualification (or equivalent).
• GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
• Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths from Entry Level 3 to Level 2.
• Experience working with young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
• Strong lesson planning, assessment and classroom management skills.
• The ability to make Maths engaging, practical and relevant.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good organisational skills and confidence maintaining learner records.
• A calm, patient and positive approach to supporting learners.

Perhaps they've never seen the point of it. Perhaps they've struggled to keep up in lessons. Perhaps confidence has taken a knock somewhere along the way. At New Meaning Training Berkshire, Functional Skills Maths isn't about asking learners to repeat the same experience. It's about making Maths practical, relevant and useful. We're looking for a Functional Skills Maths Tutor to join our Berkshire team in Reading. You'll deliver Functional Skills Maths from Entry Level 3 through to Level 2, helping learners build the numeracy, problem-solving and everyday maths skills they need for work, independence and adult life. Many of our learners have SEND and/or SEMH needs and benefit from a calm, supportive and highly practical approach to learning. We're looking for a tutor who can explain concepts clearly, build learner confidence and help young people see that success in Maths is possible. You Will Have

About Us New Meaning Training (NMT) offers education with a difference. We are a post 16 training and education provider dedicated to helping young people aged 16-25 discover their strengths and develop the confidence and skills to earn their own living. This academic year New Meaning Training has over 320 young people from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, and Berkshire. Many of these learners are referred by secondary schools, pupil referral units, and Special Education Needs settings. Our journey began in 2015 with the opening of our first centre in High Wycombe, originally known as "Toolshed." Ten years on, NMT continues to grow. In Berkshire we're fortunate enough to have expanded into a second building in Reading to create a quieter space for Creative Art & Design, Achieve Lifeskills and Transition learners. And in our main building we have Construction Multiskills, Sports and Boost Workskills. All incorporate functional skills qualifications in Maths and English, along with tutorials and enrichment sessions to support our well-rounded approach. We also provide a 'Transition Support' programme for young people with EHCPs who are not yet ready for a learning setting. NMT tailors its programmes to meet the needs of its learners, considering Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We comprehensively apply the principles of a Loving Care Approach (Trauma Informed Practice) to ensure all young people receive the support they need to thrive.
