Job summary

Cranfield University invites applications for a fully-funded PhD studentship funded by EPSRC DLA, Cranfield University and Spirent Communications. The bursary is £24,000 per annum and tuition fees are covered for 3.5 years, supporting research in autonomy, navigation and AI for resilient PNT in autonomous transport.

The project will fuse AI, multi-sensor data and cognitive systems to design robust navigation architectures.

Qualifications

  • UK honours degree or equivalent in related field.
  • Experience with Python and MATLAB.
  • Background in aerospace, CS, robotics, or electrical engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with fusion/learning techniques in robotics or autonomous systems.
  • Interest in autonomous systems and signal processing.
  • Willingness to work with hardware and embedded platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Two industry placements at Spirent Communications.
  • Use high-tech simulation equipment and industry data.
  • Present at leading international conferences.
  • Training in software-defined radio, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and advanced AI methods.
