The Role

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team. You will work directly with students aged 11-19 who have a range of special educational needs, helping them access the curriculum and develop essential life skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with diverse SEN requirements
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons
  • Support students with personal care needs where appropriate
  • Help develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs)
  • Encourage student independence and social skills development
  • Assist with behaviour management using positive reinforcement strategies
  • Support students during breaks, lunchtimes, and school activities
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and incidents
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals
Essential Requirements
  • Full driving licence (essential due to school location)
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN
  • Understanding of different types of learning difficulties and disabilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet diverse student needs
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare
Desirable Qualifications
  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Training in specific SEN areas (Autism, ADHD, etc.)
  • First Aid certification
  • Experience in a secondary school environment
  • Knowledge of Makaton or other communication systems
