Job summary

Animal Trust, a UK-based veterinary CIC, is seeking a developer to join our digital team to build and maintain bespoke products for our customers and colleagues.

You'll work on live applications, APIs, integrations, and our new native mobile app, with ownership increasing after launch, while supporting a junior developer and collaborating with external specialists to ensure reliable, high-quality solutions.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of professional software engineering/full-stack experience.
  • Strong JavaScript/TypeScript and React/Next.js experience.
  • Backend development using Node.js or similar.
  • REST APIs, third-party integrations and SQL/NoSQL databases.
  • Git, cloud platforms, Kubernetes and modern development workflows.
  • Experience contributing to iOS/Android mobile applications.
  • Pragmatic problem-solving and ownership of existing systems.
  • Effective, responsible use of AI-assisted development tools.

Responsibilities

Job description

We're looking for a UK-based developer to join our growing digital team, developing and maintaining bespoke, business-critical products for our customers and colleagues.


You'll maintain and improve existing applications, build new features and integrations, and contribute to our new native mobile app alongside specialist developers, taking on greater ownership following launch.


Working closely with our Product Owner, you'll also support a junior developer and collaborate with external specialists to deliver reliable, high-quality solutions.

Desirable
  • Node.js/NestJS, PostgreSQL/Prisma, Redux Toolkit/RTK Query, native/cross-platform mobile, Docker, CI/CD, webhooks, automated testing and monitoring.
  • Experience in an in-house SME team and working with external partners.
  • Experience integrating AI features and developing data pipelines.
  • Experience with headless CMS platforms such as Strapi or Directus.
  • Experience with realtime integrations, payments or complex data synchronization
