Job summary

36 Labs is a seed-stage startup from the UCL Machine Learning lab. You will own the self-serve product, integrating design and engineering to ship end-to-end features for AI-assisted creative workflows.

You will work with the CTO, ML engineers, and backend engineers to shape the product, dashboards and APIs, while iterating based on user feedback and experiments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level technical degree or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years building customer-facing products with real users.
• Strong TypeScript and React; comfortable with Node or Python services.

Responsibilities

• Own the entire product end-to-end: UI, APIs, data model, and iterate for polish and speed.
• Design interfaces for AI generation: streaming output, long-running jobs, editing results, and graceful failure.
• Instrument everything: events, funnels, session replays and feature flags to guide shipping.
• Run experiments on onboarding, pricing and core flows; use results to drive product decisions.
• Talk to users, observe how they use the product, and translate learnings into the next release.
• Design the product: flows, layout, motion and the design system.
• Set the standard for product engineering: UI/UX quality and robust design-system components.

36 Labs is a seed-stage startup that started out of the UCL Machine Learning lab. We bootstrapped to 10 people, and now we're on the next leg of growth.

AI can generate almost any form of media, but it still can't judge what captures human attention. AI-generated content on social platforms is growing fast, every creative workflow will be agent-assisted or fully agentic. Our work is improving how models reason about creative decisions, learning from how audiences respond to content.

The role

You'll own our self-serve product, the productisation of our creative harness.

This role is designer, product manager and engineer in one. You'll have autonomy to decide what to build, then design and ship it yourself, so it's built for someone exceptional at all three.

You'll work closely with the CTO on direction, with machine learning engineers on the models and agents behind the product, and with backend engineers on the platform it runs on.

What you'll do

• Own the entire product end-to-end: the web UI, the APIs, and the data model, and continually iterating to improve polish and speed
• Design interfaces for AI generation: streaming output, long-running jobs, editing and iterating on results, and graceful failure
• Instrument everything: events, funnels, session replays and feature flags, and use them to decide what to ship
• Run experiments on onboarding, pricing and core flows, and use the results for data-driven product development
• Talk to users, watch how they use the product, and turn what you learn into the next release
• Design the product: flows, layouts, interaction details, motion and the design system
• Set the standard for product engineering internally: UI/UX quality, performance, and the design system/components the rest of the team builds with

What we're looking for

• Preferred BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field, or the equivalent in the form of experience
• 4+ years building customer-facing products, including at least one you shipped from zero to real users
• Strong TypeScript and React, and comfort across the stack: Node or Python services, APIs, Postgres and production debugging
• Product taste: you care about UX, speed and polish, and you push back when something doesn't feel right
• Built self-serve products with auth, onboarding and billing, and improved them using product analytics
• Experience designing UX around AI: streaming responses, generation that takes time, and outputs users need to edit
• Design engineering: you take an interface from sketch to polished production UI, and sweat the micro-interactions, empty states and loading states
• Product management instincts: you've set priorities, scoped work and made trade-offs without a PM
• Extremely AI-pilled: you work with models constantly and have been experimenting with the latest tools and paradigms to get the most out of them
• Systems or projects you've built and can discuss in technical depth

Nice to have

• Built creative tools, editors or media products: video, image, canvas or timeline interfaces
• Experience with PostHog or similar product analytics, experimentation and feature-flag tooling
• A portfolio of shipped interfaces or design work
• Founding or early engineer at a startup, or equivalent ownership inside a larger company
