• Help deliver a nationally significant AI platform through elegant, responsive frontend design.

• Base salary range: $116,262 – $127,078 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

Join the Planning and Transport Research Centre (PATREC) at UWA, where cutting‑edge AI research meets real‑world impact – from Perth to the world. The RoadSense Analytics (RSA) project is a next‑generation video analytics platform for traffic analysis, built on more than seven years of continuous R&D. Backed by the AEA Innovate Grant, we are now taking this pioneering Australian research into its most exciting phase: bringing advanced AI to market through a secure, scalable, cloud‑native Software as a Service (SaaS) platform.

This is your opportunity to bridge the gap between academic innovation and commercial deployment, a rare chance to see your work directly improve:

  • Road safety by detecting near misses and reducing crashes.
  • Traffic efficiency by cutting congestion and improving flow.
  • Transport system performance through better data‑driven planning and investment decisions.

You will join a small, agile team of a solution architect, a UX/UI designer, a backend‑focused full‑stack developer, and AI/ML researchers, working in close collaboration to bring breakthrough computer vision models to market. Together, we are building the tools that will help transport professionals across Australia and overseas make smarter, safer, and more sustainable decisions.

About the opportunity
  • You will be responsible for the frontend experience of the RSA platform, creating a responsive, accessible, and elegant interface that makes advanced AI feel simple and intuitive.
  • Working closely with a UX/UI designer, backend developer, and AI/ML researchers, you’ll design interactive visualisations that allow users to move seamlessly between high‑level overviews and detailed drilldowns, while ensuring dashboards, inputs, and workflows are intuitive and easy to use.
  • This role offers the opportunity to shape the usability of a nationally significant platform, turning technical outputs into insights that improve road safety, traffic flow, and planning decisions.
About you
  • Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of professional experience building modern, responsive frontends for SaaS or data‑driven platforms.
  • Experience consuming REST APIs and managing state (e.g., Redux, Zustand, Recoil).
  • Ability to write clean, modular, and maintainable code, with testing practices (e.g., Jest, Cypress).
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile workflows.
Note

Occasional interstate or international travel may be required.
