Job Title: Full Stack Developer - CT Office Incubation Team
Location: London, UK; Cambridge, UK; or Milan, Italy - (Hybrid, 50% On-site)
Employment Type: Full-time
The job
AVEVA's Chief Technology Office drives emerging-technology innovation from early signals to real-world impact by scouting technology and market trends and then maturing capabilities such as Industrial AI, Digital Twins, robotics, simulation, visualization, and edge-to-cloud technologies through hands-on technical evaluation, experimentation, and rapid prototyping. The CT Office Incubation Team turns emerging technology ideas into working prototypes that can be validated with customers, partners, and internal teams.
As a Full Stack Developer, you will help build end-to-end prototype solutions (UI, APIs, data integration, and cloud/edge deployment) to test new concepts in Digital Twins, Industrial AI, robotics, simulation, and visualization. You'll work in small, fast-moving, multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with engineers, researchers, product and solution specialists, and industrial domain experts. This role suits an early-career developer who enjoys learning quickly, working across the stack, and turning ideas into functional software-valuing curiosity, practical problem-solving, and clear communication alongside coding skills.
Key responsibilities
- Support the build of full‑stack prototypes by implementing and testing frontend, backend, APIs, and basic data integrations under guidance.
- Help turn product ideas into small, testable demos by contributing to minimum-viable implementations and iterating quickly.
- Develop and maintain simple, well-documented REST APIs and integrations (including event-driven patterns when needed) for internal and customer-facing prototype environments.
- Use AI-assisted coding tools effectively and responsibly, while learning to validate generated code for correctness, security, quality, and IP compliance with support from senior engineers.
- Improve reliability and demo readiness by fixing bugs, adding basic tests, and ensuring prototypes can be set up and reproduced by others.
- Apply baseline security best practices (secrets handling, dependency hygiene, access control awareness, safe data handling) following team standards.
- Troubleshoot prototype applications using logs and basic observability tools; elevate issues early with clear context.
- Document your work clearly (setup steps, API notes, known limitations, assumptions) to help teammates and future reuse.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teammates (product, researchers, solution architects, domain experts) and participate in team practices such as PR reviews, while building confidence in providing feedback.
- Contribute small reusable components and templates and grow your knowledge of industrial software topics (Digital Twins, simulation, industrial data, robotics, edge/visualization) over time.
Essential requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent hands-on experience) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Maths/Physics, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of practical coding experience through a mix of internships, junior roles, university projects, open-source, or personal projects.
- Experience building end-to-end applications or prototypes, covering both backend and basic frontend components.
- Working knowledge of at least one backend stack (e.g., Python, Rust, Java, Node.js, C) and a willingness to learn new tools as needed.
- Familiarity with REST APIs, basic database concepts (relational and/or NoSQL), and software engineering fundamentals (testing, debugging, modular design, incremental delivery).
- Comfortable using Git and common team workflows (branches, pull requests, code reviews, CI/CD).
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot/Cursor/Claude Code/Codex), with an understanding that generated code must be reviewed and validated.
- Exposure to containers (Docker/Podman/Apptainer) and at least one cloud platform (Azure/AWS/GCP).
- Initial experience with edge and autonomous deployments, for example deploying software to constrained devices or platforms such as robots, drones, gateways, or on-prem edge servers, including awareness of reliability and connectivity.
- Able to work in ambiguous problem spaces, ask good questions, learn quickly, and communicate clearly in English; willing to travel occasionally for workshops, demos, and prototype validation.
