Citi is seeking a Senior Java Developer to join the Risk Data Team in a hybrid Belfast setting. You will build high‑impact software, design robust microservices, and own critical data pipelines that support risk management across the organization.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering complex software solutions in enterprise environments.
• Strong knowledge of Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, RESTful services (XML, JSON).
• Proven experience with Microservices architecture and modern data platforms.
• Hands-on Core Java, multi-threading, Collections, and Spring Framework expertise.
• Solid understanding of software engineering best practices, OOP, design patterns, and CI/CD.

Responsibilities

What We do / The Team:

The Risk Data Team is a high-impact, globally distributed technology and data engineering unit operating at the intersection of risk management, big data, and cloud-native platform engineering. As a critical pillar within the Institutional Data Platform (IDP) and the broader Citi Enterprise Data Organization (EDO), our team is responsible for modernizing and managing the end-to-end lifecycle of risk data across the enterprise. We build and maintain the high-performance pipelines, aggregation engines, and analytical frameworks that safeguard Citi’s systemic stability and drive informed, data-driven decision-making.

Role Overview/What will you do:

• Develop and implement complex software solutions using Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, and RESTful web services.
• Design, develop, and maintain robust microservices adhering to architectural best practices.
• Apply hands‑on expertise in Core Java, including multi-threading and the Collections framework.
• Utilize Spring Framework effectively for application development.
• Work extensively in creating and optimizing SQL queries.
• Ensure adherence to software engineering best practices, object-oriented programming (OOP) principles, and design patterns.
• Contribute to the continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
• Manage source code effectively using tools such as Git or Bitbucket.
• Promote and apply clean coding principles and maintain high quality using tools like Sonar.
• Design and implement comprehensive unit, integration, and functional tests to ensure solution quality.
• Analyze and solve complex technical problems efficiently.
• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of application developers, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Key Skills and Experience required:

• Experience in developing and implementing complex software solutions.
• Strong knowledge of Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, and RESTful web services (XML, JSON).
• Proven experience working with Microservices Architecture.
• Hands‑on experience with Core Java, Multi‑threading, Collections framework, and Spring Framework.
• Solid understanding of software engineering best practices, OOP, design patterns, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with source code management tools (Git or Bitbucket).
• Understanding of clean coding principles and code quality measurements using tools like Sonar.
• Demonstrated ability to design and implement unit, integration, and functional tests.
• A strong, solution‑driven mindset with the ability to analyze complex problems, devise strategic solutions, and lead their implementation.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Any Beneficial / Nice to have experience:

• Experience with Big Data technology (HDFS, Spark, Impala)
• Understanding of Cloud‑native development principles.
• Experience with Container Orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, etc.).
• Proficiency in using Jira for tracking tasks, managing backlogs, and participating in sprint cycles.
