Job summary

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is seeking an experienced Full-Stack Developer to join one of our product engineering teams. You will design, build, test and support digital services enabling the CAA to deliver its regulatory responsibilities, using React, Next.js, C#, .NET and Azure.

This hands-on role requires delivering high quality software, contributing to technical decisions and supporting services through design, deployment and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years professional experience of full stack development and delivering web applications into a production environment.
  • Solid practical experience of JavaScript or TypeScript, React and Next.js, including modern approaches to web application development.
  • Good practical experience of C# and .NET, including object-oriented design, web API development and working with relational databases and data access frameworks such as Entity Framework Core.
  • Experience of developing or supporting services in Microsoft Azure, for example using App Service, Functions, AzureSQL,or similar platform services.
  • A sound understanding of Git, CI/CD, automated testing, application security,accessibility,and modern software delivery practices.
  • A pragmatic approach to problem-solving, with the ability to take ownership of work, ask for support when needed and see changes through into live service.
  • Able to communicate clearly and work constructively with technical and non-technical colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain software across the full application stack, including front-end components, backend services, APIs, integrations, and data access.
  • Develop secure, accessible, and responsive UIs using TypeScript, React and Next.js, following agreed CAA design and accessibility standards.
  • Build secure and maintainable APIs and backend services using C# and .NET Core.
  • Deploy and support applications in Microsoft Azure, working with cloud services, databases, source control, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Produce clean readable, testable, and maintainable code; take part in peer reviews and contribute to high-quality engineering standards.
  • Write and maintain automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, and use monitoring and logging to understand health of live services.
  • Take an active role in planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives, raising delivery risks and technical concerns early.
  • Use automation with modern AI developer tools to streamline coding, testing, and documentation tasks.
  • Work with Product Managers, Analysts, user-centred design, testers, architects and operations to craft practical solutions.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Full-Stack Developer to join one of our product engineering teams.

As a Full Stack Developer, you will help design, build, test and support the digital services that enable the CAA to deliver its regulatory responsibilities. Working within a multidisciplinary product team, you will contribute across the full technology stack, developing accessible user experiences using React and Next.js, or be willing to cross train from React to Next.js, alongside developing APIs and backend services built with C# and .NET and hosted in Microsoft Azure.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you will be expected to deliver high quality, maintainable software, contribute to technical decision-making, and support services throughout their lifecycle, from initial design through to operation and continuous improvement.

Core Accountabilities
Software design and delivery
  • Design, build andmaintainsoftware across the full application stack, including front-end components, backend services, APIs,integrations,and data access.
  • Develop secure, accessible, and responsive UIs using TypeScript, React and Next.js, following agreed CAA design and accessibility standards.

Quality and best practices

Working as part of a team
  • Work with Product Managers, Business Analysts, user-centred design, testers, architects and operational teams to understand needs, refine userstories,and agree practical solutions.
  • Share knowledge, contribute to technicaldiscussions,and support colleagues in resolving delivery and live-service issues.
About You

  • Experience with Azure monitoring, messaging, APImanagement,or container-based application hosting.
Additional Information

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.

SC -

To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken. For this role it will need to be 5 years.

Relocation & Property

The CAA will be relocating from Aviation House (Our Gatwick Office) to new premises in a few years’ time. Our move is driven by strategic, operational and environmental considerations.

We will be moving to a new local home, up to a 15-mile radius of Aviation House, to minimise disruption for our valued colleagues and customers.

We are now working with colleagues and visitors to understand what we need in our new office, before we start our property search. We will sell Aviation House and land, vacate the site and move to new premises, but we do not expect to move before 2028.
