Job summary

Airbus is offering an undergraduate internship in the Fuel & Inerting Systems team at Filton, Bristol, for a duration of 12.5 months starting around August 2027. You will join the Control & Indication department to contribute to fuel gauging and control system design across Airbus aircraft while developing engineering skills in software, modelling, mechatronics and electronics.

This placement is open to current undergraduates across listed engineering disciplines.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Support the Fuel & Inerting Systems domain in the Control & Indication department.
  • Assist design of fuel gauging and control systems across Airbus aircraft.
  • Contribute to R&T projects and Flight Test campaigns with guidance from engineers.
  • Develop skills in computer-based engineering, design of control systems, and mechatronics.

The Fuel & Inerting System presents many technical and business challenges that need to be understood and managed. It operates in a very hostile environment at extremes of both temperature and humidity, with the added challenge of safety being our number one priority due to the volatile nature of jet fuels. As an engineer within the team, understanding these topics and issues will be the focus of your time here.

What you will be doing

From the moment you join, you will be an integral part of the Control & Indication department, within the Fuel & Inerting Domain. The Fuel Control & Indication teams are responsible for the design of the complete fuel gauging and control system across every commercial Airbus aircraft, at all stages of the development lifecycle. From R&T projects, to supporting the Flight Test campaigns, you can expect to be contributing to meaningful work across our entire fleet. The philosophy of the Fuel & Inerting Systems Domain is to have the best systems, people and partnerships. Over time as an Intern, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills as an Engineer, ultimately helping you to realise your potential. We are in the middle of an exciting time in our industry, with a focus very much on environmentally sustainable aviation. The work you will complete with us will not be limited to traditional kerosene-based fuel systems, but also to new and novel technologies; the design of current and future Airbus fuel control systems for our next generation of aircraft and the impact that novel fuels such as Sustainable Aviation Fuel will have on these systems is of high importance and interest to enable Airbus to lead aviation into the future. As one of our interns, you will operate in a challenging environment, where you will be given a real and valued role in the Control & Indication team within Fuel & Inerting Systems. Our team operates in the following areas of expertise: Computer-based engineering (software, modelling); Design of control systems and their associated interfaces; Fuel Gauging and Control System development; Mechatronics & Electronics. You will have the flexibility to tailor your year according to what interests and what inspires you, while developing your knowledge of our systems and aircraft. You will have the opportunity to have varied placements working with experienced teams in the above areas, but it would be appreciated if you could propose the area that interests you the most when applying via your cover letter.

Requirements

Successful candidates will be: Studying one of the following areas of degrees:

  • Aerospace and/or Aeronautical Engineering
  • Computer Engineering and/or Science
  • Computer Modelling
  • Electronic and/or Electrical Engineering
  • Systems Engineering
  • Mechanical and/or Mechatronic Engineering
  • Software Engineering
