Responsibilities

Band 2 Front Office Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) Post

Full time - 37.5h per week.

Working hours: Monday to Friday 10:00 – 18:30, plus weekend early shifts 09:00–12:00 as overtime (1 in every 2 weekends).

NOTE: This is largely a clerical role. Lab visits are encouraged (see contact details).

Overview

The Pathology department at Stepping Hill Hospital (Stockport NHS Foundation Trust) is seeking a Front Office MLA to join the Blood Sciences team to assist with processing samples that arrive in the lab. The successful applicant(s) will join a friendly and passionate staffing group providing diagnostic services to the hospital patients and wider community. The role is based in the Pathology Reception and will primarily deal with service users face to face or via telephone and answer any queries.

Responsibilities
  • Receipt, recording and preparation of a variety of patient samples (e.g. blood, urine, faeces and other body fluids).
  • Sort and identify specimens received in the Laboratory.
  • Enter/enrol patient’s details and other data onto the computer.
  • Assist the Biomedical Scientists in technical duties as required under their supervision.
  • Perform general clerical duties associated with the work of the Laboratory, including filing, telephone answering, photocopying etc.
  • Work with other team members to cover absence due to sickness and annual leave (this may include weekend and night shifts).
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties under supervision and according to protocols laid down.
  • Expected to work weekend early front office shifts, 09:00 – 12:00 as overtime, 1 in every 2 weekends.
Qualifications

Good standard of numeracy and literacy, excellent communication and customer service skills and maintain confidentiality at all times.

Full training for this role will be provided.
