Job summary

Booker is seeking an experienced Butchery Manager to run the department with a focus on delivering excellent customer service and business growth. The role requires strong meat product knowledge, leadership, and a readiness to receive full butchery training.

The position is full-time (38 hours per week) with a rotating weekend pattern (1 in 3 weekends). You will work closely with the Store Manager to drive sales and profitability while maintaining high standards across stock, safety, and service.

Qualifications

• Must have experience managing a butchery department.
• Strong customer service and leadership skills.
• Good knowledge of all meat proteins.
• Willing to undergo full butchery training.

Responsibilities

• Maintain high standards in stock, food safety, displays, staff morale and customer satisfaction.
• Collaborate with Store Manager to develop a business plan for sales and profitability in the department.
• Greet customers, provide advice, answer questions, take orders and offer helpful guidance.
• Order and manage stock, including stocktaking and inventory control.
• Develop and manage a small team, including staff rota planning.
• Cut meat to order.
• Clean and maintain tools and equipment.
• Coordinate deliveries or order pickups.
• Control waste.

*This role is full time for 38 hours per week. Working 1 in 3 weekends*

This role is known internally as a Butchery Manager, we are open to exploring Fresh Food Managers keen to learn the Butchery trade. Full Butchery training will be provided.

We are looking for experienced managers to run our Butchery Departments like their own business. This is an exciting role where you will work with customers to develop their business, understand your local market and provide them with great service.

This role gives you the flexibility to run a butchery business without the financial risk. We want someone who has good product knowledge of all meat proteins, who is self‑motivated with a desire to succeed.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining high standards in all areas including stock, food safety procedures and recording information, fresh meat and pre‑packed meat displays, staff morale and customer satisfaction.
• Working alongside the Store Manager to develop a business plan that supports the growth in sales and profitability of the department.
• Greeting and speaking to customers, providing advice, answering questions, accepting orders, and offering helpful advice with a smile.
• Ordering and managing stock—including stocktaking and inventory control.
• Effectively developing and managing a small team including staff rota’s.
• Cutting meat to order.
• Cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment.
• Coordinating deliveries or order pickups.
• Controlling waste.
