Freight Forwarder – Suffolk/Ipswich – Up to £50,000

Our client are looking for an experienced Ocean Import Coordinator with strong knowledge of freight forwarding and customs processes to join their business in Suffolk. The role involves managing international shipments, ensuring full compliance, efficient transport planning, and excellent customer service.

Job type: Permanent

Hours: Monday to Friday – 09:00 – 17:00

Salary: Up to £50,000

Office: Primarily office-based, with occasional travel to ports, warehouses, or client sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage import shipments from global suppliers, including container and bulk cargo.
  • Coordinate with overseas partners, carriers, and shipping lines to arrange timely transport.
  • Prepare and process essential documentation (Bills of Lading, invoices, packing lists, customs entries).
  • Ensure compliance with UK and international customs and trade regulations.
  • Track shipments and provide proactive updates to clients and internal teams.
  • Complete customs clearance procedures and maintain accurate records.
  • Negotiate freight rates and service terms with carriers and logistics providers.
  • Resolve operational issues such as delays, damages, or documentation errors.
  • Provide quotes and tailored logistics solutions to clients.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain shipment data accurately in ERP and logistics systems.
Skills/Qualifications
  • Proven experience in freight forwarding, import operations, and customs clearance.
  • Experience with a UK based forwarder
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Strong understanding of international shipping procedures and documentation.
  • Knowledge of UK customs processes and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Sage, Microsoft Dynamics).
  • Ability to manage multiple shipments and work under pressure.
Preferred Skills
  • Expertise in Incoterms and trade compliances
  • Additional language skills (advantageous).
  • Relevant logistics or forwarding certifications (e.g., FIATA, CILT).
