Senior Freight Forwarder

Salary: Up to £40,000 (DOE)

Our client is a market leader in defence and government logistics, delivering secure, mission‑critical freight solutions across the UK, Europe and beyond. With operations spanning road, air, and ocean freight, they provide trusted, agile, and purpose‑driven logistics services for some of the most demanding and sensitive supply chains in the world.

The Opportunity

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Freight Forwarder to take the lead in a pivotal, fast‑paced operation. You'll manage end‑to‑end international shipments across air and road (and occasionally sea), ensuring seamless execution while driving the team to achieve success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage international freight movements via Air and Road (essential) and Sea
  • Plan routings, coordinate with carriers and partners, and oversee documentation accuracy
  • Oversee customs and insurance documentation, ensuring export control compliance
  • Maintain chain of custody for sensitive or classified consignments
  • Lead the use of the Forward Solutions TMS, developing smarter, more automated workflows
  • Identify opportunities to streamline or outsource services for maximum efficiency
  • Monitor costs, margins, and negotiate competitive rates
  • Coach and lead a small, high‑performing Freight Forwarding team
What You'll Bring
  • 5–10 years proven experience working in a freight forwarding position in the UK for a freight forwarder
  • Proven ability managing time‑critical or secure shipments
  • Customs expertise, including UK Customs Declaration Service entries
  • Practical knowledge of Incoterms, export licensing, and trade compliance
  • Strong system skills, ideally with Forward Solutions or similar TMS, plus Excel proficiency
  • IATA or IMDG certification (preferred)
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites
