Job summary

SILA Linguists is recruiting freelance Lingala interpreters and translators for asylum, healthcare, legal and community work, remotely or on site. Lingala is the main language of Kinshasa and western Democratic Republic of Congo, and is widely used in the Republic of Congo.

Interpreters who can follow this mix work best. Assignments include asylum interviews, legal advice, GP and hospital care, mental health support and children's services.

Qualifications

• Native or near-native Lingala and English, spoken and written.
• Willingness to undergo a DBS check for certain assignments.
• UK work eligibility for on-site work.

Responsibilities

• Interpret in Lingala and translate Lingala statements to clear English.
• Follow standards of accuracy, impartiality and confidentiality.
• Prepare per assignment by reviewing briefs and terminology.
• Take on-site or remote assignments by video or telephone.
• Possible Lingala transcription and translation of recordings on request.
