Job summary

The Very Group is seeking a Fraud Analyst to join our Fraud Risk Analytics team in Liverpool. You’ll use data to understand fraud risks, develop rules, monitor performance, and help spot threats before they impact customers or the business.

Whether you’re a recent graduate or have analytics exposure, you’ll build your skills with a friendly, fast-moving team and contribute to safeguarding our customers while delivering practical insights across Credit Risk and Fraud Operations.

• Degree in a numerate subject or equivalent practical experience.
• Comfortable working with data using Excel, SQL or other tools.
• Clear communication and ability to present insights to others.

About the team

Protecting our customers and business from fraud is at the heart of what we do. You’ll join our dedicated Fraud Risk Analytics team of 5 (within our Credit Risk department of c.60 FTE) working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where your ideas can make a real impact.

We’re responsible for designing and delivering fraud prevention strategies that tackle threats across the full customer journey, from new credit applications to account takeovers and emerging fraud trends. We combine data, insight, and innovation to keep our customers safe and minimise loss.

We don’t expect you to know everything from day one, you’ll get the support of a friendly, knowledgeable team and a chance to grow your skills in a business that moves quickly and values your input.

About the role

As a Fraud Analyst, you’ll play a key role in helping us understand and respond to fraud risks using data. You’ll support the development of fraud rules, monitor how our strategies are performing, and help us spot new threats before they become a problem.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone, whether you’re a recent graduate or you’ve had some exposure to analytics in a previous role, we’ll help you build your skills and grow into the role.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Analysing fraud patterns and customer behaviours using data to support strategy development.
• Monitoring the performance of existing fraud rules and identifying areas for improvement.
• Supporting the design, testing and implementation of new fraud controls.
• Building dashboards, reports or models to help stakeholders understand key risks and trends.
• Working with stakeholders across Credit Risk, Fraud Operations, and wider teams to help protect our customers and the business.

You’ll be surrounded by supportive teammates and experienced analysts who are there to coach and develop you while also giving you the space to take ownership of your work and grow in confidence.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is:

• Naturally curious, analytical, and enjoys problem-solving.
• Has a degree in a numerate subject such as Maths, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science or similar or equivalent practical experience.
• Comfortable working with data, whether that’s in Excel, SQL, or other tools.
• Able to communicate clearly both when working with your team and when presenting insights to others.
• A team player with a proactive mindset who’s keen to learn and grow.
• Organised and able to manage time effectively in a fast-moving environment.

You might have:

• Exposure to working with large datasets or in a risk-related environment.
• An interest in financial crime, fraud prevention or credit risk.
• Familiarity with some of the following - SQL, SAS, R, Python, Excel or Power BI.
