Job summary

KindRoot Home is seeking an experienced Independent Financial Consultant to provide strategic financial guidance across a growing portfolio of founder-led businesses. You will work directly with the Founder & Managing Director in East Sussex, offering commercial insight and long-term financial planning.

The engagement is strategic and advisory, not accounting, with an initial commitment of approximately 6–10 hours per month and a consultancy fee of up to £800 per month (VAT where applicable).

Qualifications

• Experience in financial consultancy, commercial finance, fractional CFO services or senior financial management.
• Proven track record with founder-led SMEs and entrepreneurial businesses.
• Strong financial modelling, forecasting and commercial analysis capabilities.
• Experience in manufacturing, design, retail or product-based businesses preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support financial forecasting, budgeting, cash flow planning and long-term business strategy.
• Review profitability, pricing structures, margins and operating costs for improvement.
• Evaluate new business opportunities, expansion plans and investment decisions via financial modelling.
• Provide strategic guidance across multiple entities, including resource allocation and structure considerations.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced, commercially minded Independent Financial Consultant to provide strategic financial guidance across a growing portfolio of founder-led businesses.

Our principal business, KindRoot Home, specialises in sustainable furniture and cabinetry design and manufacturing. Alongside this, we are developing a separate kitchen fronts business and exploring opportunities for further business development and diversification.

As these ventures evolve, we are looking to establish a long-term working relationship with an experienced financial professional who can provide commercial insight, strategic direction and independent financial advice.

Working directly with the Founder and Managing Director, you will act as a trusted advisor, supporting informed decision-making, financial performance and sustainable business growth.

Key Areas of Responsibility

• Financial Strategy & Planning: Support financial forecasting, budgeting, cash flow planning and long-term business strategy.
• Commercial Performance: Review profitability, pricing structures, margins and operating costs to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Growth & Investment Planning: Evaluate new business opportunities, expansion plans and investment decisions through financial modelling and commercial analysis.
• Multi-Business Advisory: Provide strategic financial guidance across multiple business entities, including resource allocation and business structure considerations.
• Financial Risk & Sustainability: Identify financial risks, strengthen financial resilience and support sustainable, commercially viable growth.
• Strategic Partnership: Act as an independent sounding board, offering practical recommendations and constructive challenge to support business decisions.

About You

We are looking for an established finance professional with strong commercial judgement and experience advising growing businesses.

Ideally, you will bring:

• Experience in financial consultancy, commercial finance, fractional CFO services or senior financial management.
• A proven track record of working with founder-led SMEs and entrepreneurial businesses.
• Strong financial modelling, forecasting and commercial analysis capabilities.
• Experience within manufacturing, design, retail or product-based businesses, although this is not essential.
• An understanding of the financial considerations involved in managing multiple business entities.
• The ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and translate analysis into practical recommendations.
• A proactive, collaborative approach, with the confidence to challenge assumptions and contribute to strategic decision-making.

The Engagement

This is a strategic and commercial advisory engagement, not an operational accounting or bookkeeping position. Established external accountancy and bookkeeping support is already in place.

We envisage an ongoing consultancy relationship, with an initial commitment of approximately 6–10 hours per month, depending on experience, priorities and the agreed scope of services.

The consultancy fee is up to £800 per month, inclusive of VAT where applicable, with the specific arrangement to be agreed based on the level of support provided.

The engagement can be undertaken predominantly remotely, although occasional in-person meetings in East Sussex would be welcomed.

We are specifically seeking to work directly with an independent consultant, rather than through an agency or consultancy firm.
