Job summary

Switch Tech Talent seeks a founding Senior Software Engineer (Rust) to join an on-site role in Newcastle, building scalable, secure applications for defence clients. You will establish Rust best practices, lead client projects, and shape the Rust capability within a growing team.

Ideal candidates bring a strong Rust background, a STEM degree, and eligibility for UK security clearance, with experience in defence or secure environments being advantageous. This is a founding, high-impact position.

Qualifications

• STEM degree 2:1 or better from a leading university.
• Eligibility for UK SC-level security clearance.
• Experience in defence or secure environments beneficial but not required.

Responsibilities

• Be the founding Rust engineer, setting up Rust best practices.
• Build out the Rust specialization and lead client projects.
• Form and grow a Rust-focused team to tackle greenfield work.
• Collaborate on on-prem, policy-compliant, satellite, and AI safety projects.
