Inch Cape Offshore Limited is seeking a Foundation Engineer to safeguard the structural integrity of offshore wind turbine foundations and substructures during operation, ensuring ALARP risk management and maximum turbine availability.

Based in Montrose with a hybrid work pattern (3 days in office, 2 days remote), you will lead integrity management, risk-based inspections, and lifecycle assessments, collaborating with O&M, regulatory bodies, and contractors to optimise performance and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil/Structural/Offshore/Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proven offshore wind foundations or offshore structure experience.
  • Strong knowledge of structural analysis, fatigue and marine environments.
  • Experience in asset integrity, O&M engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Lead integrity management of offshore foundations (monopiles & jackets).
  • Develop risk-based inspection strategies and life assessments.
  • Review inspection data and define remedial actions.
  • Provide real-time engineering support to O&M activities.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 19902, DNV-ST-0126, IEC and HSE.
  • Interface with regulators, Tier 1 contractors and OEMs.

Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm

Inch Cape is a 1080MW offshore wind farm situated 15km from the Angus coast in the North Sea. The power it generates will be transmitted 85 kilometres to a new substation at Cockenzie, in East Lothian from where it will enter the national transmission system. Inch Cape is a more than £3 billion infrastructure project that will make a significant contribution to the UK’s carbon emissions reduction targets. Once complete its 72 turbines will generate enough electricity to power almost half the homes in Scotland.

Summary of Assignment

The Foundation Engineer is responsible for the structural integrity, performance and lifecycle management of offshore wind turbine foundations and substructures during the operational phase of the windfarm. The role ensures that all foundation assets are safe, compliant, and optimised for performance, supporting maximum turbine availability and revenue generation, while maintaining risks As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) in accordance with UK regulatory expectations.

Location: Montrose, (3 days a week in the office, 2 days WFH)

Responsibilities
Asset Integrity & Structural Performance
  • Lead the integrity management of offshore foundations (monopiles & Jackets)
  • Develop and implement risk-based inspection strategies
  • Analyse structural performance considering fatigue, corrosion, scour, and environmental loading
  • Support remaining life assessments and life extension strategies
  • Review inspection data (ROV, seabed surveys, NDT) and define remedial actions
  • Lead or support root cause investigations for structural anomalies or failures
Inspection, Maintenance & Repair (IMR)
  • Define and optimise planned and corrective maintenance programmes for foundations
  • Support offshore campaigns including inspection scopes, method statements, and contractor management
  • Provide engineering input into major component replacement or structural repair campaigns
  • Ensure all maintenance activities align with O&M plans, consent conditions, and environmental commitments
Engineering Authority & Technical Governance
  • Act as Technical Authority for foundation systems within the asset
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards: ISO 19902 / DNV-ST-0126 / IEC standards, UK HSE regulations and Offshore Safety Case requirements
  • Interface with certification bodies and independent verification engineers (IVBs)
  • Review and approve engineering change proposals and concessions
Operational Support to O&M Activities
  • Provide real-time engineering support for: Offshore faults and defects, Vessel-based intervention campaigns, Emergency response scenarios
  • Collaborate with O&M teams to ensure safe and efficient execution of offshore work scopes
  • Contribute to work planning, RAMS reviews, and offshore readiness
Data, Monitoring & Digital Systems
  • Utilise and develop Asset Management Systems (AMS) and structural health monitoring tools
  • Interpret data from: SCADA systems, Structural monitoring sensors, Inspection and survey reports
  • Drive predictive maintenance strategies and performance optimisation
Health, Safety, Environment & Compliance
  • Ensure all activities comply with: Health & Safety Management Systems, Environmental Management Systems
  • Support development of the Operational Safety Case
  • Ensure risks to personnel, assets, and environment are managed to ALARP principles
  • Contribute to marine licence compliance and environmental mitigation measures
Commercial & Stakeholder Interface
  • Support budgeting and cost for foundation O&M activities
  • Interface with: Tier 1 contractors and OEMs, Regulators (e.g. Marine Directorate, HSE), Internal stakeholders and shareholders
  • Provide input into lifecycle cost optimisation and risk-based decision making

Qualifications

Desirable
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards
  • Experience with subsea inspection techniques and surveys
  • Knowledge of offshore installation and construction interfaces
  • Familiarity with FEA tools and structural modelling software
