Job description
Overview

Lancashire County Council is recruiting foster carers for children leaving residential care (step-down fostering) across the county. This is a full-time, self-employed role offering an enhanced annual allowance for providing high-need foster care.

What we're looking for

We need people who are skilled at supporting children and young people from complicated backgrounds and with enhanced needs, gained either through their career, previous fostering experience or personal life. Relevant careers include:

  • Experienced foster carers
  • Working with young people or adults with complex needs e.g. mental health, residential staff, youth workers, carers
  • Blue light workers e.g. NHS, prison officers, police, probation services, armed forces
What we need from you

Carers must be willing to undertake extra training and at least one carer in the household must be fully available for the child with no other working commitments. This makes the role ideal for those looking for a career change, retired or willing to take early retirement. If you are single, we would expect you to commit full time and we welcome applications from all backgrounds regardless of relationship status, age, race, sexuality, religion, home ownership. You need to be able to provide a spare room for the sole use of a child.

Benefits and support

In recognition of step down care meeting a higher/more complex level of need, we offer an enhanced annual allowance of up to £59,000 for our foster carers who can provide this type care, which we hope will attract people with relevant experience to make a career change.

You would have access to all the benefits of being a Lancashire County Council carer, including our foster carer mentoring academy and recommend a friend bonus scheme.
