Job summary

Plumpton College in Lewes seeks a knowledgeable Forestry Trainer/Technician to support practical teaching in the Forestry & Arboriculture department. The role combines technical support, resource management, and hands-on teaching assistance to ensure high-quality student experiences.

The ideal candidate will hold a Level 3 qualification (or equivalent), have machinery and safety knowledge, and hold NPTC/Lantra tickets, with excellent communication and a full UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication, organisation and digital skills.
• Strong knowledge of forestry and arboriculture machinery and health and safety requirements.
• NPTC or Lantra competency tickets in Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross Cutting and Manually Fed Woodchipper.
• Full UK driving licence required.
• Level 3 Forestry & Arboriculture qualification or equivalent industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Support the day-to-day running of the Forestry & Arboriculture department, ensuring resources, facilities and equipment are ready for teaching and learning.
• Oversee departmental purchasing, ordering, deliveries and supplier liaison in line with College finance procedures.
• Maintain practical teaching areas, machinery, plant and equipment to a high standard, keeping accurate maintenance and health and safety records.
• Support practical teaching sessions and provide subject specialist input that enhances the curriculum and student experience.
• Contribute to departmental quality improvement, housekeeping, compliance, open events and wider College activities.
