Job summary

Deloitte UK is offering a six-week Forensic Technology placement aimed at penultimate-year students or those starting a Master’s, with expectations of achieving a 2:1 or higher in any discipline. The role immerses you in real work from day one, supported by experts to help you solve complex problems.

You'll gain hands-on experience across digital evidence gathering, data analytics, and cutting-edge tech, with a strong emphasis on learning SQL and Python within a hybrid office/home working setup.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting lawyers and investigators in identifying digital evidence relevant to the investigation, dispute or litigation.
  • Visiting client offices to collect data from servers, laptops, mobile devices or social media, sometimes covertly.
  • Using advanced data mining, generative AI and computer forensics tools to understand digital evidence and uncover misconduct.
  • Researching and contributing to development of cutting-edge solutions to address real-world challenges, including MI creation from new techniques.
  • Learning and using SQL and Python to analyse data.

Job description

The Forensic Technology teamis responsible for identifying and gathering digital evidence around our client’s biggest and most complex legal,regulatoryand economic crime challenges. We help them to buildsolutions and conduct analysis so they can improve their overall operations and reduce risk to the business.

Our services help a varied client base, from smallcompaniesto large corporates with a global presence. We love working with data and we want to help our clients get the most from theirs, whethertheyareinvestigating potential fraud or supporting complex regulatory and legal matters. We work on highly sensitive and varied projects using new technology, combining investigative skills with technical expertise.

What skills and academic qualifications do I need?

You must be in the penultimate year of your course, or going onto a Masters, and you need to be on track to achieve a predicted degree classification of 2:1 or above in any discipline. What kind of work will I do?

This six-week placement puts you at the heart of our business, surrounded by experts who can help you flourish. You’lldo real workfrom day one, using what you’ve learnt at university to help solve complex problems.

Some of your tasks might include:

  • Supporting lawyers and investigators in identifying digital evidence relevant to the investigation,dispute or litigation
  • Visiting client offices to collect data from sources such as servers, laptops, mobiledevices or social media, working covertly if needed
  • Using advanced data mining, generative AI and computer forensics tools to gain a deepunderstanding of digital evidence and uncover corporate misconduct
  • Researching and contributing to the development of cutting-edge solutions that address real-world challenges. This includes working with and implementing new techniques and technologies to create valuable management information (MI) for our clients
  • Learning and using advanced data science techniques including coding languages such as SQL and Python, to analyse data.
Where will I work?

At Deloitte we recognise how important face-to-face interaction is for your development in a new role. If you’re in a client-facing role, you might be expected to attend client sites on certain days, while your meetings will be a mix of online and in-person events.
