Job description

Lancing College has a proud footballing history. It is one of the oldest games played at the College, and it has strong OL links. The college fields eight senior sides and six junior teams during the Advent term, and continues football into the Lent Term. There are also opportunities for girls’ football throughout the year.

The Appointment

Lancing College is seeking to appoint an outstanding Goalkeeper Coach to coach Boys and Girls Football on a sessional basis starting in the Lent Term 2026. We run eighteen teams across five‑year groups and are looking for an experienced, knowledgeable, and hard‑working coach to continue improving the skills of both boys’ and girls’ players ranging in ages from 13‑18 years.

Position: Goalkeeper Coach (Bank)

Responsible to: Head of Football

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare and deliver goalkeeper coaching sessions in line with Lancing College’s Football Coaching Curriculum.
  • Devise a specific coaching curriculum for goalkeepers to help them maximise their potential.
  • Ensure that pupils exhibit high standards of discipline and behaviour during all football sessions and matches.
  • Be responsible for maintenance of all equipment.
  • Be presentable, smart, and personable when representing Lancing College.
  • Support the Head of Football in selecting goalkeepers for teams, organising fixtures, and posting team sheets.
  • Meet with parents who have concerns or questions over matches and football‑related matters.
  • Attend regular meetings with the Head of Football.
  • Work closely with other teaching staff to develop their football knowledge specific to goalkeepers.
  • Coach, according to the educational needs of the pupils assigned to you.
  • Safeguard the pupils’ health and safety at all times.
  • Undertake all reasonable tasks delegated by the Head of Football.
Skills and Experience
  • Qualifications:
    • National Goalkeeping Course or Level 2 in Coaching Goalkeepers.
    • FA Level 2 – UEFA C Licence.
  • Educated to a minimum of GCSE standard (or equivalent).
  • Experience leading in a sporting environment.
  • Playing experience as a goalkeeper and proven success in football coaching, including player development and team performance.
  • Experience of working in an Academy environment or within a football club.
  • An excellent coach able to lead by example and engage pupils with the ability to form strong working relationships with pupils, colleagues, and parents.
  • Approachable, engaging, and enthusiastic, with the ability to represent the College positively.
  • Self‑motivated with excellent time‑management skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, highly conscientious, and punctual with a warm and professional manner to join our sports team.
  • Previous experience of working within a school would be an advantage.

Terms and Conditions
  • The starting salary will be competitive and commensurate with the experience of the successful candidate.
  • This is a zero‑hour contract, no hours of work are guaranteed; however, we estimate 6–9 hours per week. Core hours of football are Tuesday and/or Thursday 2.00pm–4.00pm, plus further hours as required within the co‑curricular programme between 4.00pm–6.00pm each day. There is also potential opportunity to coach an U18 team on Saturday afternoons depending on availability and experience of the successful candidate.
