Job description

We are seeking a motivated, energetic, and inspiring Food Technology Tutor to join our dedicated team. This is more than a teaching role – it is an opportunity to help young people rediscover trust, develop life skills, and experience success through creativity, structure and meaningful relationships. Our pupils may have experienced trauma or complex backgrounds, but with the right support, consistency and care they can thrive – and your role will be central to that journey.

About the role

As a Food Technology Tutor you will design and deliver high‑quality, engaging and practical learning experiences across Key Stages 3 and 4. You will bring food technology to life in a way that builds independence, resilience and pride, while ensuring lessons are accessible, differentiated and safe for learners with a wide range of additional needs. You will create a calm, purposeful and nurturing learning environment and support pupils’ emotional wellbeing and personal development. Flexibility is key, as you will also provide cover when required and support learning across the wider curriculum.

Key responsibilities
  • Planning and delivering innovative, high‑quality Food Technology lessons.
  • Leading the effective delivery of Food Technology across KS3 and KS4.
  • Differentiating learning to meet the needs of pupils with diverse and complex needs.
  • Creating a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.
  • Supporting pupils’ emotional wellbeing and personal development.
  • Providing cover for absent teachers or tutors when required.
  • Contributing positively to the wider life and culture of the school.
Qualifications and experience
  • Experience working with young people, ideally within an SEN setting.
  • A background in Food Technology, catering or a related discipline.
  • Experience supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour.
  • A willingness to use safety interventions, including physical restraint, following appropriate training.
  • A belief in relationship‑led practice and educating the whole child.
Working conditions and benefits
  • You will work 80 % of your contractual hours for 100 % of your pay, giving you more time to do the things that make you happy. The 4‑day working week is subject to successful completion of probation and is not a contractual benefit.
  • Life Assurance.
  • Pension scheme with options to increase your contributions.
  • Your Wellbeing Matters – access to a wide range of first‑class mental health support services and physical health checks.
  • Flexible Benefits Platform, enabling you to choose from:
    • Health, wellbeing and insurance benefits.
    • Hundreds of discount options valid in the UK and abroad.
    • Cycle‑to‑Work schemes.
    • Electric Car Purchase scheme.
    • Critical illness cover.
    • Family Growth Support – enhanced maternity and paternity leave, plus paid fertility treatment support.

We reserve the right to close the vacancy early if we receive a high volume of suitable applications.

All applicants will be subject to social media checks and successful applicants will undergo a fully enhanced DBS check.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils and young people.
