Job summary

Sodexo Ltd. is hiring a Food Service Assistant in Wisbech. You will join a team delivering meals with a smile, serving customers, handling tills, and ensuring high food safety standards.

The role requires a proactive, reliable team player who can work busy shifts in a catering environment. You will contribute to impeccable service, maintain clean dining areas, assist with deliveries and training, and support events as needed.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare, present and serve a variety of food and beverages, ensuring high standards of quality and presentation.
• Deliver excellent customer service, creating a friendly and welcoming experience for everyone.
• Assist with food preparation and service, following procedures and food safety standards.
• Serve customers at food counters, ensuring efficient and professional service.
• Operate tills and handle customer transactions accurately.
• Replenish food displays, service counters and supplies during service periods.
• Maintain clean, tidy and well-stocked dining areas, tables and service stations.
• Follow Food Safety, Health & Safety, COSHH and hygiene procedures at all times.
• Carry out cleaning duties across kitchen and catering areas, including equipment, surfaces and floors.

What you'll do:

• Prepare, present and serve a variety of food and beverages, ensuring consistently high standards of quality and presentation.
• Deliver excellent customer service, creating a friendly and welcoming experience for everyone.
• Assist with food preparation and service, following established procedures and food safety standards.
• Serve customers at food counters, ensuring an efficient and professional service.
• Operate tills and handle customer transactions accurately.
• Replenish food displays, service counters and supplies throughout service periods.
• Maintain clean, tidy and well-stocked dining areas, tables and service stations.
• Assist with checking deliveries, including recording food temperatures and ensuring products meet quality standards.
• Monitor and record food temperatures during service, completing all required food safety documentation.
• Carry out cleaning duties across kitchen and catering areas, including equipment, work surfaces, floors, utensils and crockery.
• Follow Food Safety, Health & Safety, COSHH and hygiene procedures at all times.
• Identify and report any hazards, near misses, equipment faults or food safety concerns.
• Respond professionally to customer feedback, escalating complaints or concerns when necessary.
• Support hospitality events and special functions when required.
• Work closely with colleagues to ensure the smooth running of daily catering operations.
• Provide additional support across the catering department during busy periods or to cover colleague absences.
• Complete required training and contribute to maintaining high standards of service.

• Basic knowledge of food hygiene and food safety practices.
• A good understanding of Health & Safety and the importance of maintaining a clean working environment.

• Good attention to detail, particularly when preparing, presenting and serving food.
• The ability to follow instructions, food safety procedures and cleaning schedules.
• A flexible approach to changing priorities and supporting different catering duties.
• Good time-management skills and the ability to work efficiently during busy service periods.
• A willingness to learn and undertake relevant training.
• The ability to carry out a physically active role, including standing for extended periods, moving stock, cleaning and carrying catering equipment.
• Level 3 Supervising Food Safety qualification would be advantageous.
