Job summary

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is seeking a dedicated Food Safety Officer to join our Business Regulation and Support Team. You will deliver high-quality food safety inspections, audits and sampling programmes to ensure legal standards are met and local businesses comply.

The role requires up-to-date knowledge of UK food safety law, strong communication skills, evidence gathering, and the ability to work flexibly including evenings or weekends when required; a driving licence is preferred.

Qualifications

• Baseline qualifications as specified in the Food Law Code of Practice and registration.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborative teamwork.
• Experience gathering evidence, conducting interviews, serving notices, and preparing files for legal prosecution.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Official Food Controls: inspections, audits and sampling to verify standards.
• Investigate incidents & complaints: handle reactive workloads including outbreaks and notifications.
• Serve as subject matter expert in food safety and ensure compliance across the borough.
• Take proportionate enforcement action: gather evidence, issue notices, assist in preparing legal files for prosecution.
• Deliver targeted projects: raise awareness across the Borough.
