Job summary

Braintree District Council is recruiting an FOI Officer to manage Freedom of Information and Environmental Information Regulations requests. You will coordinate across services, gather and verify information, and ensure timely responses while advising on exemptions and data protection considerations.

Qualifications

• Experience in information access, data protection or compliance processes.
• Ability to interpret information carefully and meet deadlines.
• Organised, detail-focused, able to work across services.
• Familiar with FOI/EIR requirements and UK GDPR concepts.

Responsibilities

• Receive, assess, and coordinate FOI and EIR requests within statutory timescales.
• Liaise with requesters, internal officers, services and external stakeholders to progress requests.
• Gather, review and verify information for responses and identify redactions or exemptions.
• Prepare clear, professional response correspondence and explain reasoning accessibly.
• Maintain records of FOI/EIR requests, decisions, deadlines and disclosures in the case system.
