Job summary

A public sector organization in Reading is seeking a skilled flooring specialist to undertake various flooring and repair tasks in Council-managed properties. The ideal candidate will have a City and Guilds or NVQ in Floorcovering, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to customer service. About the role

Full time 37 Hours per week – Fixed term for 23 months. You will undertake floor laying in various buildings, houses, flats, and maisonettes owned or managed by Reading Borough Council. The role will be based at our Bennet Road depot – 19 Bennet Road, Reading, RG2 0QX.

Responsibilities

• Carry out a wide range of flooring and repair work across Council-managed homes and buildings using materials such as vinyl, laminate, and other modern floor coverings.

• Assess the materials needed, obtain them from stores or suppliers, and seek approval for repairs that exceed specified work orders.

• Work primarily in occupied properties, exercising care to avoid damage to occupants’ property and treating all customers (tenants) with courtesy and respect.

• Leave your workspace clean and tidy at the end of each job, completing all job sheets and timesheets promptly and accurately.

• Follow health and safety regulations, wear your uniform and ID badge, and represent Reading Borough Council with pride.

• Help maintain high-quality services by identifying additional repair needs, meeting productivity targets, and managing your tools and materials efficiently to deliver excellent results for our customers.

Qualifications
  • City and Guilds or NVQ in Floorcovering with demonstrable experience in a range of flooring skills.
  • Good knowledge of building trades and construction, and experience in refurbishment and repairs within the general building business.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Skilled in installing various flooring systems and preparing subfloors.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to great customer service.
  • Full current UK driving licence.
