The role will primarily focus on resettling Sutton's displaced, homeless residents placed in Nightly Paid Accommodation (NPA) or Temporary Accommodation (TA), into long term housing. Typically into the private sector, sometimes to social housing, to reduce the number and length of stay of Sutton's homeless households into longer-term, sustainable accommodation.
You will have a good understanding of housing options and Housing legislation, benefit entitlement, training and employment opportunities and the impact of legislative changes such as welfare reform. Able to collect and extract relevant information to accurately identify and evaluate the nature of the client’s enquiry, applying relevant legislation, policies and procedures to make clear, informed and consistent decisions on the appropriate course of action.
You will have significant experience of providing information, advice and guidance to members of the public in complex environments. Able to communicate effectively in writing and orally, complex information, ideas and arguments clearly and concisely using communication styles that are appropriate to different people and situations. Understanding anxieties, emotions, needs and motivations and managing expectations through support, negotiation and information provision to achieve the best outcome.
You will be experienced in motivational interviewing or other similar intervention techniques. Demonstrating a customer-focused attitude, showing diplomacy, empathy and understanding with a desire to resolve issues and find solutions to maximise the options and opportunities available to customers. Be creative and constantly innovating to meet clients' needs in new and improved ways. Able to motivate and support individuals through a process of personal change that is outcome focused.
Able to build positive relationships and work effectively and cooperatively with others, respecting differences and embracing diversity, challenging inequality and poor behaviour, be open to new ideas and act on feedback. Able to precisely and accurately record information and maintain up to date case records using appropriate I.T. systems that reflect the nature of the enquiry, advice given and decisions made.
Able to recognise the needs of vulnerable households and take appropriate action, referring to other teams or agencies where complex needs are identified. Able to identify risks and assess how they may impact on decisions or customers and take appropriate action to mitigate against excessive or unavoidable risk.

The Wellbeing and Support Team is an approachable and empathic front line holistic housing and homelessness support team located within LB Sutton's Housing Advice Service, working alongside and as a supportive accompaniment to the Housing Advice and Homelessness Prevention Team.
The Wellbeing and Support Team's mission statement is to put our residents at the center of their support. With a person led and individually tailored support plan assisting Sutton residents' with tenancy sustainment, de-escalation of homelessness at early signs of risk and where homelessness is unavoidable, resettlement into alternative, suitable and affordable long term housing.
The Wellbeing and Support Team works in unison with the local authority, to provide people-focused, responsible, inclusive, delivering and empowering service delivery.
