Job summary

NHS Orkney seeks Consultant Anaesthetists for a part-time rotational role at The Balfour, a modern rural general hospital on Orkney. You will split your year between island blocks and a mainland base, delivering perioperative care and anaesthesia and contributing to obstetric, paediatric, HDU and emergency cover.

You will work autonomously in a small team, with strong emphasis on collaboration, wellbeing, and flexible patterns.

Qualifications

• Broad range of general anaesthetic and resuscitation skills.
• Confident working autonomously in a small island-team setting.
• Excellent communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Provide perioperative care and anaesthesia on island blocks.
• Cover obstetric, paediatric, HDU and emergency cases.
• Participate in consultant on-call rota with mainland colleagues.
• Collaborate with NHS Grampian/other boards as agreed.
