Current Heavy Goods Vehicle driving licence, class C or C+E
Institute of Motor Industry (IMI) Hybrid and Electric Vehicle EV2.2 and EV3 certification
Ability to take instruction from others
Willingness to commit to personal development
Clear and confident verbal and written communication
Good organisational skills
Flexible approach due to locations of SFRS premises

Job description
Overview

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Fleet Support Technician, based in Inverness on a permanent basis. This is a full-time opportunity, working 35 hours per week with a two week rolling rota you can expect a long weekend every second week.

Responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for the detailed inspection servicing and maintenance regimes on fire service vehicles and operational equipment in accordance with DVSA and CFOA guidelines and procedures. This post is predominately workshop based but will have a significant requirement for the inspection and testing of new and existing vehicles and operational equipment on site at the services stations and premises throughout the North East area.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Fully qualified time served LGV mechanic with City and Guilds qualification or equivalent
  • Good knowledge of modern HGV and light vehicles
  • Current Heavy Goods Vehicle driving licence, class C or C+E
  • Institute of Motor Industry (IMI) Hybrid and Electric Vehicle EV2.2 and EV3 certification or industry equivalent
  • Ability to take instruction from others and follow service policy and procedures
  • Willingness to commit to personal development; able to operate power tools safely; adherent to Health & Safety legislation
  • Shift working as part of a team or on own initiative; willing to provide out of hours on-call when on rota
  • Clear and confident verbal and written communication; good organisational skills to meet tight timelines within budget
  • Flexible approach due to locations of SFRS premises
  • Desirable: Heavy Goods Vehicle Inspector Certificate
  • Good knowledge of modern vehicle electrical systems (12 & 24 Volt)
  • Basic welding and fabricating skills
  • Basic computer skills; good knowledge of Health & Safety Policy and procedures

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.
