Job description

Polypipe Building Products are focused on delivering solutions to the residential sector. Polypipe Building Products works with national and local developers, plumbing and heating engineers, general builders and groundworkers to deliver above and below ground drainage systems, rainwater solutions as well as hot and cold plastic plumbing products.

Role Overview

Responsible for the control of all company fleet requirements & be named on the Operator’s Licence for the purpose of shared/delegated responsibility for legal compliance and in the absence of the Transport Manager is authorized to implement all necessary actions to ensure achievement of the objectives of an effective fleet safety program.

Main Responsibilities
  • Ensure all company fleet vehicles and drivers meet current laws and legislation, acting as deputy to the Transport Manager on all matters of legal compliance.
  • Arrange vehicle inspections, MOTs and maintenance work, ensuring all vehicles are roadworthy, fully serviced, and compliant.
  • Oversee daily fleet operations — monitoring utilisation, authorising repairs, and controlling fleet inventory.
  • Maintain accurate records within the Fleet Management System, including updates for new vehicles, drivers, disposals, MOTs, and road fund licensing.
  • Manage tachograph downloads and analysis in line with legislation and company policy.
  • Investigate accidents, breaches, and compliance issues — liaising with enforcement bodies or the Traffic Commissioner when required.
  • Work with internal teams to design and deliver professional driver training, including onboarding for new staff and ongoing compliance training.
  • Review and update Safe Systems of Work (SSWs) to align with current operations and equipment.
  • Implement and monitor electronic fleet systems, ensuring correct use and resolving any system issues.
  • Produce and report on KPIs related to fleet performance, costs, and compliance.
  • Monitor vehicle condition through regular internal and external checks, taking corrective action as needed.
  • Manage purchase orders and carry out cost analysis when required.
  • Oversee and maintain the company’s Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) accreditation, ensuring all documentation, audits, and driver training meet the required standard.
Skills / Experience
  • Must possess Managers Certificate of Professional Competence.
  • Previous transport / fleet management experience.
  • Demonstrable accident investigation experience.
  • Experience with web-based compliance systems & a good working knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong ability to multi‑task and prioritise work. Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrable experience of achieving and maintaining industry accreditations (e.g. FORS/Clocs).
Working Hours & Benefits
  • Monday - Friday days, two week rotations; 6:00am-2:30pm, 10:30am-7:00pm.
