Job summary

North Lanarkshire Council Fleet seeks an experienced Fleet Inspector to lead daily workshop operations at Bellshill Fleet Depot. You will supervise technicians and drive compliance, safety and maintenance performance, with a focus on achieving excellent MOT first-time pass rates.

You will oversee inspections, repairs and servicing to DVSA standards, monitor schedules and defect rectification, and support transitions to alternative fuels while maintaining high health and safety standards.

Qualifications

• SCQF Level 7 in Mechanics or equivalent qualification.
• Inspector qualification.
• Experience in vehicle maintenance, inspection, and repair.
• Sound knowledge of DVSA, MOT, and Operator Licence compliance requirements.
• Experience supervising workshop activities and leading technical staff.
• Competent in the use of fleet management and vehicle diagnostic systems.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Managing and coordinating the day-to-day activities of the workshop floor.
• Ensuring inspections, repairs, servicing, and maintenance meet DVSA standards and operator licence requirements.
• Monitoring inspection schedules, maintenance records, and defect rectification processes.
• Investigating MOT failures and implementing improvements to maximise pass rates.
• Supervising workshop staff to achieve high workmanship, productivity and safety.
• Working with fleet management systems and diagnostic equipment to monitor performance and compliance.
• Planning and allocating workshop resources to deliver fleet services.
• Supporting transition to electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles.
• Promoting a strong health and safety culture.
