Job summary

A leading ferry company in the UK is looking for a dedicated Deck Officer to join their Fleet pool. This role involves managing responsibilities onboard while ensuring safety and operational protocols are followed. You will develop critical skills and work on various vessels across the Irish Sea. Responsibilities

  • Manage designated areas of responsibility as allocated by the Chief Mate/Master.
  • Act in accordance with responsibilities in the vessel's emergency organisation.
  • Carry out maintenance as directed by the Planned Maintenance Program.
  • Be familiar with the ship's operating and navigational procedures.
  • Manage identified risks to ship, personnel, and environment.
  • Report any incident or accident relating to injury or potential hazard aboard.
  • Familiarity with relevant parts, procedures, and requirements of the SMS.
  • Take interest in duties above rank to build confidence.

Stena Line are looking for a Deck Officer to join our Fleet pool. In this role, you will support our deck teams onboard while developing your skills and knowledge on our vessels. This role has no set location; you will have the opportunity to work on all of our Irish Sea ferries. As a third officer, you are responsible to the master in all respects and are directly accountable to him for the execution of your duties. Your tasks as an officer are diverse and as such you will have the opportunity to use and develop your problem‑solving skills in a wide range of scenarios. As a Third Officer, you are responsible for:

Responsibilities
  • Your designated areas of responsibility as allocated by the Chief Mate/Master.
  • Acting in accordance with your responsibilities in the vessel's emergency organisation.
  • Carrying out maintenance on board as directed by the vessel's Planned Maintenance Program.
  • Being familiar with the ship's operating and navigational procedures.
  • Managing all identified risks to ship, personnel, and environment and establishing appropriate safeguards.
  • Reporting to the Chief Officer, any incident or accident relating to any injury or potential hazard aboard along with any deficiencies in machinery or equipment, particularly safety equipment.
  • Be familiar with the relevant parts, procedures, and requirements of the SMS contained within the DOCMAP system.
  • Take an active interest in the duties above your rank to ensure confidence in stepping up and an ability to be hands‑on.
  • Bridge Navigating Officer
  • Loading and unloading the vessel.

  • Ropax vessel experience is strongly preferred for this role.
