Teignbridge District Council is recruiting a Planning Officer to join the Development Management team. The role covers pre-application advice, site visits, report writing and determining applications, with opportunities for progression and secondment support.
The post offers a flexible, hybrid working pattern and a clear career path. The successful candidate will have a Town and Country Planning qualification, RTPI membership, and a driving licence for district site visits.
Are you ready to shape places, influence high-quality development, and build a rewarding planning career in one of Devon’s most attractive districts?
We are looking for an enthusiastic Planning Officer to join our ambitious Development Management team. You will help deliver well-designed, sustainable development, protect and enhance Teignbridge’s built and natural environment, and play a direct role in making the district an even better place to live, work and visit.
This is an exciting time to join us. Over the past two years, we have raised our performance, strengthened the way we work and built a confident, high-performing service. We want people who are positive, curious and committed to doing planning well, with strong professional standards, sound judgement and excellent customer service at the heart of everything they do.
You will work as part of a geographical area team, handling a varied caseload depending on your experience. Your work could include pre-application advice, site visits, report writing, making recommendations on your own applications, and representing the Council at appeals and Planning Committee. If you are earlier in your career, we will support you with training, mentoring and practical experience so you can grow with confidence. If you already have experience, we will help you develop further and take on new challenges.
We offer a genuinely flexible working environment, with colleagues spending at least 50% of their week in the office and the remainder working from home if they wish. New starters are office based for the first two months, helping them settle in, build relationships and feel part of the team from day one.
If you are motivated, practical and ready to make a visible difference, we would love to hear from you. Join us and help shape the future of Teignbridge.
You do not need to tick every box. We welcome applications from graduates, early-career planners and candidates who already have planning experience and are ready for their next step.
We're better together.
