Job summary

A leading engineering company in Leicester is offering an exciting apprenticeship opportunity to become a Service Technician. Ideal candidates will have at least 5 GCSEs including Maths and English, and must be willing to climb ladders and work at heights. This program provides full-time training and a pathway to a permanent role, ensuring a bright future in engineering within the company. Successful apprentices have a high rate of securing permanent jobs post-training.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 17 on the first day of the apprenticeship.
  • Ability to commute to designated college within one hour.
  • Must have a manual driving test passed by the end of the first year.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair, service, and upgrade overhead gantry cranes.
  • Attend college for full-time training in the first year.
  • Undergo on-the-job training in years 2 and 3.

Overview

Apprenticeship Outcomes
  • Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Engineering Manufacturing
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering
  • Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance
Training Structure

Year 1 – full‑time attendance at a local college or training provider (off‑the‑job training).

Years 2 and 3 – day release attendance at college, on‑the‑job training with additional training at our Banbury Centre.

What You Will Learn
  • First principles relating to the operation and maintenance of electrical and mechanical plant equipment (motors, switchgear, cables & conductors, pumps, valves, gearboxes, pipework, integrated electromechanical power, and control systems).
  • Relevant industry health and safety standards, regulations, and environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Planned, unplanned and preventative maintenance and operational practices, processes and procedures covering a range of plant and equipment.
  • The relevant engineering including electrical theories and principles relative to the role of a Service Technician.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Minimum 17‑year‑old entry age on the first day of your apprenticeship (24th August 2026).
  • At least 5 GCSEs, including Maths, English, and a Science, with Grade 4/C (or equivalent) or above.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work safely at heights.
  • Must be able to travel to a designated college in your area, up to an hour away.
  • Must live locally/within commuting distance (30 miles) of the branch location.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • By the end of the first year, must have passed a manual driving test.
