Job description

Park Medical Practice is seeking an experienced andenthusiastic First Contact Physiotherapist (FCP) to join our multidisciplinaryteam in Derby. This is a part-time position, working 27 hours per week. Salaryis dependent on experience. The successful candidate will play a pivotal rolein delivering high-quality musculoskeletal (MSK) care at the first point ofcontact for our patients, supporting the local community and contributing to anoutstanding patient experience.

Main duties of the job

Provide expert assessment, diagnosis, andmanagement of MSK conditions for patients in primary care.

Act as the initial point of contact for patientspresenting with MSK issues, working independently to assess, triage, and manageyour caseload.

Offer advice, education, and self-managementstrategies to promote early intervention and prevent unnecessary referrals tosecondary care.

Maintain high standards of clinicaldocumentation and patient confidentiality at all times.

Collaborate closely with GPs, nurses, and thewider multidisciplinary team (MDT) to ensure seamless patient care.

Refer patients for investigations or specialistservices in line with local and national guidelines where necessary.

Participate in service development, clinicalaudit, and quality improvement initiatives.

Engage in regular MDT meetings, casediscussions, and continuing professional development activities.

Our current team includes: 8 GP partners, 8 Salaried GPs, 5 ACPs, 4 Pharmacists, 2 Pharmacy Technicians, 2 Social Prescribers and 1 First Contact Physio.

Job responsibilities

The First Contact Physiotherapist (FCP) will provide expertclinical assessment, diagnosis, and management of MSK conditions to patients atthe first point of contact within Park Medical Practice. You will manage anautonomous caseload, ensuring that all patients receive evidence-based,patient-centred care. The postholder will work both independently andcollaboratively with the broader healthcare team, contributing to thepractices ethos of high-quality service delivery and continuous improvement.

Key aspects of the role include:

Conducting comprehensive clinical assessmentsand formulating individualised management plans for MSK patients.

Delivering patient education and self-managementstrategies.

Ensuring accurate and timely clinicalrecord-keeping in line with information governance requirements.

Working effectively within the MDT to ensureintegrated care pathways for patients.

Appropriate referral for further investigationsor specialist input as required.

Actively contributing to service development andquality improvement projects.

Maintaining up-to-date clinical skills andknowledge through ongoing professional development.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Degree in Physiotherapy; HCPC registration; Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) membership.
  • HCPC registered physiotherapist; evidence of ongoing professional development. IR(ME)R trained and able to request imaging or to train for this is essential.
  • The candidate should be an independent prescriber or actively working toward completing the V300 Independent and Supplementary Prescribing qualification.
  • The candidate should be capable of performing joint injections or be willing to undergo training to offer this service.
