Job summary

Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport invites applications for a First Assistant Greenkeeper to assist the Course Manager in delivering the highest standards of greenkeeping. The role involves leading the team, planning daily maintenance and supporting event preparations for upcoming tournaments.

The successful candidate will have NVQ Level 2 in Sports Turf Management and spraying qualifications, plus strong leadership, safety and IT skills to manage course data and operations.

Qualifications

• Leadership experience with teams in a greenkeeping setting.
• Solid understanding of health and safety legislation and practices.
• Good IT skills and confidence with course data systems.
• Strong knowledge of modern greenkeeping methods and course renovation.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day management and tournament prep of the course.
• Stand in for Course Manager when required and lead the team.
• Plan and prioritise work within maintenance programmes.
• Motivate staff and uphold high standards of workmanship.
• Support staff development and ensure safe practices are followed.
• Assist with data collection to inform maintenance decisions.
• Help implement health and safety procedures and documentation.
