Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service is seeking a Watch Manager to lead and develop a team of Fire Safety Inspectors, delivering high-quality risk-based fire safety activities across the service area.

The role blends operational leadership with ongoing professional development, requiring robust people-management and communication skills, a focus on performance, and effective stakeholder engagement for safer communities.

Qualifications

• Evidence of aligning to the Code of Ethics and applying it in a supervisory role.
• Operational competence and effectiveness at a senior level.
• Proven leadership experience managing teams and driving performance.
• Experience in service delivery and organisational effectiveness at supervisory level.
• Ability to develop people and manage change within a watch team.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and develop a team of experienced Fire Safety Inspectors.
• Foster a high-performance culture focused on professionalism, collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Manage team performance, wellbeing and development.
• Support the delivery of risk-based fire safety activities across the Service area.
• Ensure the team delivers high-quality inspections, audits and enforcement activities.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Undertake and complete Fire Safety apprenticeship programme, achieving qualifications and competence standards.
• Contribute to strategic development of Fire Safety services and community risk reduction.
