Job summary

Southern Housing is seeking a Fire Safety Surveyor to lead fire risk assessments across its Southern portfolio. This role involves hands-on inspections, ensuring works are completed on time and to high standards, and staying compliant with regulations.

You will travel within East & West Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, attend weekly Horsham Office meetings, and split time between site and home/office. A NEBOSH Fire certificate and UK driving licence are essential.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH Fire or equivalent qualification is required.
• Experience in maintenance environment with pre and post inspections.
• Knowledge of Fire Safety Order 2005.
• Ability to produce detailed specifications of work.
• Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Lead fire risk assessment activities across Southern Housing's portfolio.
• Ensure designated fire risk assessment works are actioned within prescribed timescales.
• Analyse and assess building fire safety defects and prepare remedial specifications.
• Carry out post inspection/quality control checks and pursue redress to achieve completion.
• Monitor contractors for safety and compliance with risk assessments and method statements.
• Provide high standard of service to staff, residents, leaseholders, managing agencies and property owners.

Job description

We're excited to offer an excellent opportunity to join our dedicated Fire Safety team as a Fire Safety Surveyor. In this role, you will take the lead in overseeing fire risk assessment activities across Southern Housing's portfolio. Key responsibilities include:

• Ensuring that all designated fire risk assessment works are actioned and correctly undertaken within the prescribed timescales.
• Ensuring that all Southern Housing's properties owned and managed properties are maintained to the highest possible standards and that all statutory and regulatory requirements are met.
• Analyse and assess building fire safety related defects and deficiencies, provide remedial proposals and prepare specifications for remedial works
• Carry out post inspection/quality control checks on works and pursue any necessary redress to achieve satisfactory completion
• Carry out H&S spot checks and monitor contractors to ensure they are working safely and complying with all relevant Health & Safety risk assessments and method statements.
• Ensuring that staff, residents, leaseholders, managing agencies and property owners are provided with a high standard of service.

You will conduct inspections across East & West Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight. The role includes occasional travel (either overnight stays or day trips) to Isle of Wight for inspections. Weekly attendance in the Horsham Office and monthly visits to our Farringdon office is required for team meetings. You will be expected to work on-site at Approx. 3-4 days per week, with the remaining time spent working from home or from an office location.

What you'll need Fire Safety Surveyor

• Experience as a Fire Surveyor in a maintenance environment carrying out pre and post inspections
• Fire Qualification NEBOSH fire or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005.
• Experience of working with contractors using SOR and non-SOR contracts.
• The ability to produce detailed specifications of work.
• Knowledge of relevant and current, codes of practice, building regulations, health and safety legislation, standards and materials.
• An in depth knowledge of construction, design and fire related defects and how to correct them.
• Knowledge of contract management.
• A Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.

Desirable Fire Safety Surveyor

• Membership of RICS, CIOB, IFE or similar professional organisation is desirable but not essential
