Fire Safety Officer

£18.26 per Hour — 37 hours per week

Contract: 3 months

Main Purpose

To advise on the most appropriate and cost effective standards of fire safety in its premises and work operations in accordance with the relevant statutory requirements and codes of practice, and carry out fire risk assessments.

Responsibilities
  • Advise on suitable and cost-effective fire safety standards in premises and operations in line with statutory requirements and codes of practice.
  • Carry out fire risk assessments, fire safety inspections and DSEAR assessments of premises, sites and work operations as required.
  • Provide advice and guidance to directorates regarding fire safety to identify and mitigate risk.
  • Carry out investigations of any fire safety related incidents as required.
  • Prepare assessments, CAD fire safety plans and reports.
  • Support the development and monitoring of corporate policy and strategies related to internal fire safety standards and codes of practice.
  • Assist in designing, procuring and delivering appropriate fire safety training.
  • Keep up to date with developments in fire safety-related legislation, technical standards and disciplines/approaches to fire safety management and advise accordingly.
  • Develop and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with directorates and external stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Represent the council at relevant local, regional meetings and forums as required.
  • Promote and implement Equality, Equity, and Accessibility policy in all aspects of employment.
  • Maintain a healthy, safe, and secure environment and adhere to policies and procedures.
Essential Qualifications
  • NVQ L3 qualification as a minimum in fire risk assessment or fire safety audit.
  • Recent experience carrying out fire risk assessments in a range of premises and sectors, producing reports with proportionate, cost-effective advice and examples.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fire safety regulations and relevant technical standards, to advise and support managers in setting standards and driving improvements with examples.
  • Ability to prioritise and plan a busy workload to support service delivery to internal and external clients with examples.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and autonomously with examples.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including analytical abilities and IT skills, with examples.
