Overview
As a Trainee Fire Safety Adviser you will work on behalf of the Trust to deliver a safe environment with minimum fire risk, enabling the highest standards of clinical care for patients.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on all fire‑related matters and carry out inspections and risk assessments on all Trust properties.
- Train staff of all disciplines and levels on core fire safety training.
- Advise management at all levels, including senior teams, of their responsibilities under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and maintain provisions following inspection.
- Supervise the siting, maintenance and effective operation of first‑aid fire‑fighting equipment, fire safety signs and fire notices.
- Maintain accurate records of fires and unwanted fire signals, inputting them into the national Healthcare premises database.
- Compile comprehensive end‑of‑year statistics for the annual Trust reports.
- Ensure fire exits, fire escapes and associated exit routes are regularly maintained and remain unobstructed, conducting spot‑check inspections.
- Ensure fire alarms and first‑aid firefighting equipment are regularly maintained and tested.
- Respond to all complaints related to fire safety matters, including equipment, signage, procedures and policies.
- Plan and deliver fire‑awareness presentations to all staff, promoting a pro‑fire preventative culture.
- Devise and deliver a programme of fire safety training for all Trust staff and contractors.
- Create databases and spreadsheets for the storage of specialist information.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Possession of a B5‑level fire safety qualification; successful completion of a structured development programme will lead to progression to B6.
- Qualifications obtained overseas must be accompanied by an official government translation through ECCTIS (formerly NARIC).
- Applicants on a visa must have at least six months remaining on the visa at the time of the start date (not applicable to a Skilled Worker Visa).
- New recruits are required to pay for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and administrative fee prior to starting.
