Job summary

Millbank Holdings is seeking an experienced Principal Fire Protection Engineer to support major projects across the UK nuclear and energy sectors. The role involves leading fire protection assignments for nuclear build, operations, life extension, defuelling and SMR developments.

You will design and review fire detection, alarm and suppression systems, manage technical deliverables and coordinate with stakeholders across disciplines in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Fire Protection Engineering.
  • Knowledge of fire detection, alarm, suppression and firefighting systems.
  • Experience delivering engineering solutions in highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of fire engineering codes and standards.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions and manage stakeholder interfaces.
  • Experience producing and reviewing engineering calculations and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute complex fire protection assignments, designing fire detection and alarm systems and suppression systems.
  • Develop, coordinate and review technical deliverables such as calculations, layouts, specifications, design-basis documents and reports.
  • Resolve routine and complex technical issues within assigned scopes and escalate as needed.
  • Lead technical interfaces with stakeholders, clients and other disciplines, documenting decisions and supporting resolution of comments.
  • Advise on passive fire protection, including compartmentation, dampers, doors and fire stopping.

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Fire Protection Engineer to join a growing fire engineering team supporting major projects across the UK nuclear and energy sectors.

Your duties and responsibilities
  • Independently plan and execute complex fire protection technical assignments, including the system design of fire detection and alarm system systems, firefighting and suppression systems to codes/standards/regulations.
  • Develop, coordinate, and review technical deliverables such as fire system calculations, design inputs, layouts, specifications, design-basis documents, system narratives, cause-and-effect documentation, technical assessments, reports, work plans, and technical correspondence.
  • Resolve routine and complex technical issues within assigned scopes and identify matters requiring escalation to discipline manager, regulatory-support function, or other designated authorities.
  • Lead assigned technical interfaces with internal stakeholders, clients, key fire safety stakeholders, and other disciplines, including presenting technical issues, explaining assumptions, documenting decisions, and supporting resolution of comments.
  • Independently plan and execute complex passive fire protection technical assignments, including providing advice on fire compartmentation, fire dampers, fire doors and fire stopping (Desirable not essential).
Qualifications & Experience
  • Demonstrable experience in Fire Protection Engineering.
  • Strong understanding of fire detection, alarm, suppression and fire-fighting systems.
  • Experience delivering engineering solutions within highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge and practical application of relevant fire engineering codes and standards.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions and manage stakeholder interfaces.
  • Experience producing and reviewing engineering calculations and technical documentation.
Desirable qualifications
  • Degree qualified in a STEM discipline.
  • Membership of a recognised professional institution such as the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE).
  • Experience working within the nuclear, energy, defence or similarly regulated sectors.
  • Knowledge and application of NFPA codes and standards.
  • Experience of passive fire protection design and assessment.
Setting for the role

This role offers predominantly remote working, with occasional travel required for meetings, stakeholder engagement, project delivery activities and visits to UK office locations.
