Job summary

The Fire Engineering division is being launched by a multidisciplinary consultancy with UK‑wide reach. This opportunity covers a range of levels from Fire Engineer to Director, with remote or hybrid working and strong growth ambitions across the UK.

The team will operate alongside existing disciplines to deliver complex, performance‑based fire strategies. Ideal candidates hold a fire engineering or related degree, with Chartered status or progress toward it being advantageous for senior roles,

Qualifications

• Demonstrated degree in Fire Engineering or related engineering field is preferred.
• Chartered status or progress toward registration is advantageous for senior roles.
• Experience in consultancy or technically focused environments is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver fire strategies across projects and sectors.
• Apply performance‑based fire engineering and alternative design solutions.
• Perform CFD and smoke modelling for fire engineering analyses.
• Deliver structural fire engineering where required.
• Develop smoke control strategies and analyses.
• Conduct fire risk management and technical assessments.
• Provide technical fire engineering advice throughout project lifecycles.
• Collaborate with structural, MEP and other disciplines and liaise with clients and regulators.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development.
• Shape the direction and technical capability of the new division at senior levels.

Location: UK Wide – Remote / Hybrid
Level: Fire Engineer through to Associate / Director level
Salary: Competitive and dependent on experience

The Opportunity

An established, highly regarded multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is launching and significantly investing in a brand-new Fire Engineering division as part of its continued growth across the UK. This is a particularly exciting opportunity for Fire Engineers who want to join a team at the beginning of its journey rather than stepping into an already established structure. The business has ambitious plans to grow the division nationally and is looking to appoint a number of engineers across varying levels of seniority. The new division is being led by an experienced Chartered Fire Engineer with over 20 years' industry experience, an established client base and a strong track record across complex projects within the built environment, public sector, oil &gas and nuclear sectors. Fire Engineering is viewed as a significant area of growth for the wider consultancy, providing successful candidates with the opportunity to play an important role in shaping the team, developing its technical capability and supporting its long‑term growth.

The Business

The wider organisation is an established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with more than 75 years of history and a strong presence throughout the UK. The business already provides expertise across Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Geotechnical and Building Performance & Sustainability Engineering, with Fire Engineering now becoming an integral part of its multidisciplinary offering. The new Fire Engineering team will work closely alongside these existing disciplines, allowing fire safety and performance‑based design to be considered from the earliest stages of projects rather than operating as a standalone service. The consultancy works across a diverse portfolio of projects and sectors throughout the UK, providing exposure to both traditional building projects and more technically complex environments.

The Role

• Development and delivery of fire strategies across a variety of projects and sectors
• Performance‑based fire engineering and alternative design solutions
• Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and smoke modelling
• Structural fire engineering
• Smoke control strategy and analysis
• Fire risk management and technical assessments
• Providing technical fire engineering advice throughout the building lifecycle
• Working collaboratively with Structural, MEP and other engineering disciplines
• Liaising with clients, architects, design teams and regulatory authorities
• Supporting junior engineers and contributing to technical development across the team
• At senior levels, helping shape the direction, growth and technical capability of the new division

Who They Are Looking For

Fire Engineers at different stages of their careers, from experienced Fire Engineers and Senior Engineers through to Principal, Associate and Director level professionals. Of particular interest are candidates with specialist expertise in areas such as:

• CFD / computational fire modelling
• Structural Fire Engineering
• Performance‑Based Fire Engineering
• Complex Fire Strategy
• Smoke Control
• Fire Risk Management
• High‑hazard or technically complex environments

You will ideally have a relevant Fire Engineering or engineering‑related degree and experience working within a consultancy or similarly technical environment. Chartered status, or progress towards professional registration, would be advantageous for more senior appointments.

Location & Flexible Working

The new division is being developed as a national Fire Engineering team, meaning location is flexible. Candidates can be considered from across the UK and there is flexibility for fully remote working, as well as hybrid working for those who would prefer to be based around one of the consultancy's existing UK offices. The emphasis is on identifying the right technical expertise rather than restricting recruitment to a particular location.
