A recruiting agency is seeking a Fire Service and Maintenance Engineer to deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance for life safety systems in diverse environments across Oxfordshire. Job description

Nelson Permanent Placements are recruiting for a Fire Service and Maintenance Engineer on behalf of a client which provides national life safety solutions for the social housing sector.

This role focuses on delivering Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) services, including the repair of life safety systems and supporting Health & Safety compliance within the contract. You’ll work in diverse environments across multiple locations, with each day offering new challenges. As the face of our business, our engineers are trusted to engage with clients and consistently deliver outstanding customer service.

Qualifications
  • Flexible working approach, based on a minimum of 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday), with opportunities to earn additional income through weekend work and participation in an out-of-hours call-out rota
  • Full, valid UK driving licence
  • Proven experience with fire alarm systems, including both analogue addressable and conventional systems
  • FIA (or equivalent) certification in BS 5839-1 Fundamentals
  • Strong understanding of BS 5839, particularly Parts 1 and 6
  • Competent IT skills with a good level of digital literacy
  • Solid knowledge of workplace Health & Safety regulations
Key Responsibilities
  • Install, service, and maintain fire alarm systems (in line with BS 5839-1), emergency lighting, nurse call systems, and access control systems, in accordance with the relevant British Standards
  • Accurately complete service reports and maintain all required documentation
  • Inspect, maintain, and report on emergency lighting and associated life safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, AOVs, and similar systems
  • Identify and report any system faults, deficiencies, or deviations from compliance standards
  • Carry out regular van stock checks and liaise with the Engineering Technical Supervisor and Procurement team to ensure stock levels are maintained appropriately
  • Prioritise first-time fixes wherever possible to improve service efficiency and minimise return visits
  • Maintain a proactive approach to health and safety, identifying potential risks and promptly reporting any issues to help ensure the safety of yourself and others
Employment Package

  • Monday – Friday working, 40 hours per week
  • Salary of up to £37,500 per annum depending on experience
  • Overtime paid at 1.5x your standard hourly rate
