Job summary

A leading water and wastewater company in the UK is looking for a Fire Alarm Engineer to assist in various fire alarm installations and assessments. The ideal candidate will have strong installation knowledge, relevant certifications, and the ability to work unsupervised. Working hours are Monday to Friday, with a salary of up to £55,000 per annum, including benefits such as a car allowance and pension contributions.

Job description
Fire Alarm Engineer

As a Fire Alarm Engineer, you will assist the Lead Project Engineer in delivering all aspects of fire alarm installs (minor and major works). Most importantly, you will report the progress and standard of the work in progress before handing over. The applicant must have strong installation knowledge, including electrical standards (especially containment) and Fire Standards to BS 5839 Pt 1.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out fire alarm risk assessments and requirements (HSP 12) across many of Thames Water's sites.
  • Lead site visits to assess the quality of contractors' work against all standards.
  • Compile and report findings, including photos.
  • Advise and scope works with contractors to resolve problems.
  • Conduct site fire alarm assessments to BS 5839‑1.
  • Scope and write specification documents.
  • Health & Safety management for your project portfolio.
  • Assess tenders, financial management and programme management.
  • Communicate and provide technical assistance to key stakeholders/customers.
  • Ensure all asset data is captured and updated at project end.
Qualifications
  • Experience within a commercial and/or technical role.
  • FIA BS 5839‑1 Fundamental or equivalent certification in Fire Alarm principles and standards.
  • Relevant training or work experience.
  • Full UK driving licence and own transport.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and use initiative to deliver specified outputs.
Location & Travel

Your base location will be within South West London. You will be required to travel to various Thames Water sites each week, potentially up to an approximate 150‑mile round trip. You must have a full driving licence and insurance for work travel; a car allowance is provided monthly.

Working Hours

Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week.

Offering up to £55,000 per annum, including car allowance, depending on experience and skills. 26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 with length of service, plus bank holidays.
