Job description

We're looking for a strategic Financial Transactions Manager to lead the evolution of our Purchase to Pay processes. This role goes beyond managing AP and AR, you’ll work closely with Procurement and the wider Finance team to embed best practice, drive innovation, and maximise the benefits of new system developments. Responsibilities
  • As the Financial Transaction Manager, you will be accountable for leading and managing the efficient processing and recording of financial transactions including purchase orders, accounts payable, accounts receivable and other cash receipts.
  • You will engage with and develop strong working relationships with key staff across the authority and in the WMCA Group to ensure that purchase orders are raised, payments are made, and financial transactions are processed in a timely way.
  • You will oversee supplier and customer relationships, ensuring that payments are made, queries are responded to, and monies are collected in accordance with agreed terms.
  • You will ensure that all transactions are recorded accurately in the Finance system, all approvals are in accordance with the authority’s scheme of delegation and that VAT is accounted for correctly.
  • You will lead on the implementation of audit findings recommendations, research best practice, and identify opportunities for improvement, streamlining workflows and increasing efficiency to ensure a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Lead and manage the Financial Transaction team members, helping them to ensure their development needs are met and their potential is realised.
What’s essential
  • Delivering continuous improvements in financial transactions processing
  • Liaising with internal and external auditors
  • Leading and managing an Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable team
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Knowledge of relevant VAT regulations
  • Experience of operating in a business going through a period of change
  • Association of Accounting Technicians or similar qualification
  • Strong IT skills including especially in Excel (VLOOKUPS and Pivot Tables)
Location

The location for this role is 16 Summer Lane, Birmingham, B19 3SD with at least 2 days a week spent in the office.
